Project Title: Hydrogen An Alternative Fuel In Aviation
As a result of growing concerns of today’s high fuel cost in aviation, Baker students have expressed the desire to explore the use of hydrogen as an alternative fuel in aviation.
A group of 10 students will be placed in 2 teams. Each team will be given a task to research how hydrogen maybe used as an alternative fuel in reciprocating and turbine aircraft engines. They will conduct experiments on the performance of reciprocating and turbine engines using hydrogen versus current aviation fuels. Each team will modify and or fabricate changes needed to optimize the engine’s performance when running on hydrogen.
Collaboratively each team will design and build a hydrogen turbocharger turbine engine from existing automotive parts. Teams will illustrate based on their research and analysis whether or not using hydrogen gas as a fuel can in fact make flying aircrafts more affordable and friendlier towards the environment.
The challenge will be for each team to integrate what they have learned about the use of hydrogen into current engine technology. Each team will maintain an engineering note book of their group findings. See the photo album here:
Great job Ms. Pascual! |
